Waste Not! A hands-on plastic recycling workshop in Hove nr. Brighton where you can create design-led new products from plastic waste.

WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?

We are all aware that plastic rubbish blights our lives. Now is the moment to do a spot of very personal recycling. Start to see waste as a raw material that can be transformed into new designs to decorate your home.

TELL ME MORE

As well as being a very hands-on, practical day, it’s also a chance to learn about sustainable design with an informal talk and a Q & A, then you choose the base colours and vein colours from pre prepared discs and sheets of plastic.

You are of course encouraged to bring your own plastic to recycle, although sadly, there will be no lack of waste in the studio ready to use. They operate a free collection service around Brighton and Hove, which is the studio location and also where this workshop is based.

If you would like to recycle your own rubbish, check for ‘symbol 4’. This is the plastic commonly found in carrier bags, bubble wrap and packaging.

Weez and Merl are the artists behind this project, who want to challenge the throwaway culture, by demonstrating the beauty of plastic, and you only have to look at their cheese boards and platters, to be convinced. They look more like slices of marble than waste. The results of their work are the epitome of modern chic.

Rather than shipping huge amounts abroad, why not study the art of melting and shaping, and get hands on with the circular economy.
