Make Light: Neon Sign Making Workshop
The Neon Workshop company are normally based in Yorkshire. Set up by artist Richard William Whether with the aim of teaching, and exploring neon as a method of expression. The Neon Workshop aim to challenge common expectations of the material and have a dedicated gallery space. Their workshops attract makers, artists and participants from all over the world for specialist workshops and displays.
WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
Learn how to make neon. Transcribe ideas into neon drawings, and learn how to fill the glass forms with gas to make energy saving, 100 percent recyclable light. This is a beginners day course into the art that is neon. No pervious experience is necessary but by the end of the day you will take home a piece of neon that you have designed and made. The maximum size is anything that can be made from a 1.5m piece of glass. Expect mesmerising demonstrations of cutting, blowing, stretching and fusing. Blow lamps will be provided. Even better than the box set of Breaking Bad.
Please Note: You have the option to make the neon yourself but it does take years of practise and is tricky so Richard will be on hand to make it for you so you go home with your design.
HOW LONG IS THIS CLASS?
One day intensive.
WHERE WILL I BE DOING THE CLASS?
At The Greenhouse in Stoke Newington, a really cool co-working space.
